Convective plumes and the scarcity of Titan’s clouds

چکیده
[1] We show that simple thermodynamic models of convective plumes predict the area fraction of convective plumes (i.e., updrafts) in Titan’s atmosphere to be 12 smaller than on Earth. This result is in agreement with predictions by sophisticated dynamical models and with the relative tropospheric cloud cover, which is only 1% on Titan. Rainstorms on Titan, being so rare, may be violent. Citation: Lorenz, R. D., C. A. Griffith, J. I. Lunine, C. P. McKay, and N. O. Observations of shallow convective clouds generated by solar heating of dark smoke plumes
The SEVIRI instrument on the Meteosat Second Generation satellite with both fine spatial and temporal resolution allows to detect and follow the dynamics of fast developing meteorological events like spreading smoke plumes and the lifecycles of convective clouds. Smoke plumes have the ability to change the atmospheric heat content due to absorption and reduced reflection of solar radiation. By ...

Introduction: Patterns of spatial and temporal rainfall impact on runoff and outlet hydrograph (Cordery, 1993; James, 1994). Results of different studies have clarified that simulation by using diverse rainfall data could increase the reliance of results. These were much more sensible in which areas encounter with data scarcity (Mello et al., 2008; Bekiaris et al., 2008). Rainfall properties in...

متن کاملDissipation of Titan’s south polar clouds
Nearly all adaptive optics images of Titan taken between December 2001 and November 2004 showed tropospheric clouds located within 30◦ of the south pole. We report here on a dissipation of Titan’s south polar clouds observed in twenty-nine Keck and Gemini images taken between December 2004 and April 2005. The near complete lack of south polar cloud activity during this time, and subsequent resu...
